Ready… set… No…

February 20th, 2012, 7:26 pm by

32 weeks and counting… I am soooooo ready… And yet I am not ready at all. These are the two emotions I have been battling for the past couple of weeks.

I feel like I can barely walk and I get tired quickly. It’s why yesterday I told my husband I was ready to go to the hospital, only problem is the baby isn’t ready to be born, and I understand it is all up to him. My due date is April 12th.

I also have to admit that as much as I would love for my little man to arrive today… I wouldn’t be ready. The nursery is almost done, although I don’t have my breastfeeding chair yet. I am embarrassed to report I want to go to the hospital but haven’t even packed my overnight bag. I still have a couple of weeks before my baby shower, and don’t have a lot of the things I will need once he arrives. Most importantly I would never forgive myself if my son was born premature and had to struggle because I was impatient… So I wait… Wait for him to let me know when he is ready to make his debut to the world! Love you little B.J.

Low Iron = Anemic

February 2nd, 2012, 5:32 pm by

The past two weeks have been a bit of a challenge! Last week I was sick all week and I quickly realized there are only a few over the counter medications I can take because of the pregnancy. I was lucky, my husband nursed me back to health :-) , He is so sweet.
As soon as I started to feel better… Sunday hit me like a ton of bricks. I kept complaining about how tired I was, I felt like no matter how long I slept I still felt out of energy. Well… The doctor’s office called and said my iron is low and I am now anemic. It’s pretty common in pregnant woman, but it is taking a tool on me. I am now taking iron  pills so I’ll just wait and see if that works! So far, so good.

Here is an article regarding “low Iron”

Your iron requirements go up significantly when you’re pregnant. Iron is essential for making hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to other cells. During pregnancy, the amount of blood in your body increases until you have almost 50 percent more than usual. And you need more iron to make more hemoglobin for all that additional blood. You also need extra iron for your growing baby and placenta.

Unfortunately, most women start pregnancy without sufficient stores of iron to meet their body’s increased demands, particularly in the second and third trimesters. If you get to the point where you no longer have enough iron to make the hemoglobin you need, you become anemic.

Your risk is even higher if you have morning sickness severe enough to cause frequent vomiting, if you’ve had two or more pregnancies close together, if you’re pregnant with more than one baby, if you have an iron-poor diet, or if your pre-pregnancy menstrual flow was heavy.

This is why the amount of iron you need shoots up during pregnancy from 18 to 27 milligrams (mg) per day. Because it’s hard to get enough iron through diet alone, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that pregnant women take a daily supplement of 30 mg of elemental iron as a preventive dose. Many prenatal supplements contain that amount.

Iron deficiency is by far the most common cause of anemia in pregnancy, but it’s not the only cause. You could also develop anemia from not getting enough folic acid or vitamin B12, by losing a lot of blood, or from certain diseases or inherited blood disorders such as sickle cell disease.

The treatment for anemia depends on the cause. Iron supplements are not always the answer.

January 17 Baby Talk segment with Trevor

Trevor was a miracle baby and during this segment, he dropped by with his mommy, Melody Campbell to talk about surviving a premature birth and how her son is doing two years later.

A Little Miracle!

January 17th, 2012, 2:48 pm by

Join us today for News at Noon Baby Talk!!! We have special guests two year old Trevor and his mother Melody Campbell. They will share their story of survival, Trevor was born premature and wasn’t expected to make it. He was born at 26 weeks, weighing only 1lb 1 oz, 11.5 inches long. He spent 102 days in the NICU in hospital.

Two years later Trevor is a healthy and happy toddler. Doctor’s call him a miracle because at first doctors said Trevor’s brain was damaged due to hemorrhaging and he would most likely be severely impaired. Either mentally, physically or both. But Today he has No disabilities, delays, or impairments of any kind.

His mother Melody says she wants to raise awareness about premature birth and the terrible, sometimes life-long effects it has on babies and their parents; but also about the wonderful and totally unexpected outcomes of these tiny miracles.

My Pregnancy Nightmare!

January 4th, 2012, 5:16 pm by

I have this recurring nightmare that my water breaks during the morning show.

I am standing on set and Dan tosses to me to read the news. I have to make a quick decision… Do I act like nothings happened and read the news or tell Dan and James to call 911.

In the dream I finish my news segment before being rushed to the hospital. In real life I think it would be a different story, starting with I would be freaking out.

Dan would call 911.

James would play doctor and try and bowl water and grab blankets (LOL).

Swollen Feet

December 22nd, 2011, 4:56 pm by

For the past several days my husband and I have been getting the house ready for my parents to arrive. They flew in from California and arrived late last night and will be staying through the New Year!!!

With all the running around we did to prepare for their arrival my feet are swollen and I am in pain.

Last night my husband was so sweet!!! He rubbed my feet for me :-) but I am still feeling those aches and pains today :-( … B

ut I have to say it was worth it, my parents loved the upgrades we’ve done to the house.

Energy!

December 16th, 2011, 3:03 am by

I am finally starting to have more energy!

This week I was able to finish a couple of projects I’ve been working on basically since I got pregnant.

So far, it has been a good week.

My little man seems to be doing well although I am still waiting to feel that first kick. I feel these weird little movements but nothing concrete.

I can’t wait to blog about my first kick! I’ll keep everyone posted!

It’s a Boy!

December 5th, 2011, 5:14 pm by

I’ve just entered my 5th month of pregnancy and I can honestly say so far it has been a very interesting journey with a lot of ups and downs along the way.

But on Thursday I had a breakthrough!!! My husband and I went in for my 5 month checkup and we found out we are having a boy!!!

He looked so healthy and amazing, I feel so blessed!!!!!!!

All those days of feeling sick and nauseated now seem worth it :-) I am in love with my little bundle of joy and can’t wait to meet him face to face!
